Out with the Old – in with the New

new-year

2016 – Nothing good is to write about that year (at least from my perspective) and so I will not dwell on all the sad, bad and unpleasant things – they came and went and now I want to leave those behind and just concentrate on the New Year ahead.

JS and I wish you all a better, happier, healthier and safer

new-year-1

And to put you into the right mood tonight I like to give you all a little musical gift – one of the most famous musical pieces for this occasion

AULD LANG SYNE

so beautifully (and heart rendering) performed by the Band of the equally famous Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

I just know that, just like me, quite a number of you will need a handkerchief and I also know of at least one friend in Canada who will actually need 2 of them, – yes, this music is especially for you, Rebecca!

And if THE PIPES are not for you, you might like Rod Stewarts rendition live from beautiful Stirling Castle

or you, who still remember the 1940 film “Waterloo Bridge” (starring Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor), might enjoy listening to Michael Buble’ and Kylie Minogue’s version of AULD LANG SYNE.

Whatever – come midnight lets join hands through cyberspace and hope and pray for a more peaceful and happier NEW YEAR.

  1. Somehow so many of us agree that 2016 was a ‘bad boy’ in both our private lives and looking at the tragedies and stupidities which happened in the world. Thank you for your wishes and the best from me to both of you . . . hope personal fortunes improve for both of us and that the ‘checks and balances’ hold in the big wide world. Above all I cry for all the hungry, cold and frightened children losing their childhood . . . Oh: bagpipes – absolutely adore them tho’ the Rod Stewart rendition is more than acceptable 🙂 !

    • thank you, Eha, my dear friend. Even our worlds are separated by so many miles and oceans, we were thinking a lot about you and since “your” firework was shown on our TV long before ours, and we were playing all 3 versions of my posted AULD LANG SYNE, even more so.

      • Seeing it after the war, methinks ‘Waterloo Bridge’ was about the first film when my own hormones were beginning to stir and I thought it so romantic . . . I guess we believed in fairytales then 🙂 ! The Harbour fireworks were innovative, but hope you had straight streaming – YouTube did not make a good job ot it.. Bestest !!!

  2. Happy New Year! Thank you for your marvelous posts in 2016 – looking forward to more in 2017! We are on a grand adventure – so glad that we are entering 2017 together. Hugs and love coming your way…

    • no, thank you !! btw – did you ever take note of the Bagpipe dedication to you in my text above? You mentioning ‘Sarah…’ had me completely foxed, but now I manage to solve this puzzle – please do pass my compliments on to her.

  3. Happy New Year, and as soon as I started reading, I thought “This will really make me cry.” then I got to the part where you said it will make us cry, lol!! Beautiful creche or crib, just gorgeous. And thank you for the songs and uplifting message!

    Mollie

  4. 2016 was a hard one for so many, personally and otherwise as well. The world joined hands to mourn too many losses. I hope 2017 is kinder to us all.
Happy new year to you and yours. Sending extra love and cheer your way! ❤

  5. Loved the clips. I’m especially intrigued by the Waterloo clip. Makes me want to watch that movie. I vaguely remember it. A belated Happy New Year, although it is still January, though barely.
